firstly, thanks Helen, hope you are right.
i started off quite well with the jump rope and seemed to be making progress. however i seem to have regressed. yesterday i conldnt do more that 20 jumps without screwing it up. what should take me 6min took 13. frustrating. i put this down to tiredness but today (after a longer sleep), after looking at some skipping instruction on youtube i wast much better. i think this is my feet as i dont think i am changing the speed of the rope. now, over the years i have come to accept that some of my extremities may not do as my brain might want. but so far this situation hadnt manifested itself with my feet. i got pissed off and took off my trainers (i dont know why). oddly this seemed to help. Hmmm! answers on a postcard.
also, big up to whomever's idea it was to use the avocado in the morning. before this program i wasnt for the avocado and i wasnt against the avocado. i was avocado agnostic. now i am definitely for the "avo", as i have affectionately started referring to the lil critters. this morning i had avo/tomato & sliced red onion on toast with some black pepper. it was delicious. so whoever (assuming it's one person) thought this one up take a proverbial high five from me. and if there is more than one person involved in this brainwave then high five to each of you. no need to share 'fives', plenty to go around. while we are on the subject, is there anyone out there with more avo experience, who can explain a less messy way of getting the skin off? your average avo is a messy lil bugga. btw, the skin is quite heavy so weigh once peeled.
According to wikipedia the avo is from the same plant family as cinnamon. who would have thought! but i suppose when i think of some of my family it's not such a stretch.
No advice on the skipping. But you have my sympathy as I'm going through the same.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do know a thing or two about avocados. Best way to get the good stuff is to get a very sharp knife and cut through to the pit all the way around (cut long-ways, not around the middle).
Then twist the halves and one will come away from the pit first. If it's reasonably ripe, you can then just scoop the flesh out with a spoon. If it's a bit hard, you slice longways and sideways through the flesh to the skin to form cubes - then get scooping or (if it's still hard to do) turn the skin inside out and it should be easier. That said, if it's that difficult you need to ripen it up a bit more.
If you don't use the who thing in one go, leave the pit stuck in the other half as that stops it going off too quickly.
I also have good and bad days with the skipping, especially when I am tired. One major change came though when I got a new rope which is much longer than my previous one. I kept tripping up on the shorter rope and getting really, really frustrated. Apparently the way to check the correct length for the jump rope length is to stand on the rope with your feet, and hold the rope handles under your boobs (if you are a woman--I assume chest is OK for a man). I also have to skip outside, not inside. And with each skip I move forward a tiny bit. The momentum seems to allow me not to trip, but if I try and skip stationary I get about 1 or 2 skips in only. Not sure that will help, but it is worth a try. At the moment I either skip up and down a quiet road or in the park (rain or shine).
ReplyDeletefunny post. those avo's are a tricky bunch. let's see if they outsmart you
ReplyDeletecut mr. avo in half around the stone. Twist the 2 sides apart. whack your knife into the pit and twist out the stone using the knife as a handle. then cut the avo in half again and peel off skin. easy peasy.
I'm sure those are my final words of wisdom for this site.
